Three Tips for Medicine Cabinet Organization

Thank you for Sharing!

I thought perhaps if you made a New Year’s Resolution(s), that getting more organized might be on your list.  So to start the year off, here is an idea to help you organize your medicine cabinet. This is an idea that you could use in your craft room, your work bench, or wherever else you might need more organization.

Sometimes Plans Change

I had bought a magnetic strip* for storing kitchen knives.  Then I decided not to use it in my kitchen, but I had kept it too long to return it.  Then I thought of using it in my medicine cabinet.  I was in too big of a hurry to take a before picture!  However, I do have an older before picture that probably was taken right after installing the medicine cabinet when we moved into our house.  In fact, this is before I added the wire organizer* that you normally would use on the inside of a cupboard door to hold your boxes of plastic wrap and aluminum foil.

Magnetic Strip with Hooks

As you can see it is a tall medicine cabinet, and there are only two movable shelves.  (I bought mine new in the box on Craigslist– here is a similar one* on Amazon.) So in order to fit in more things, I added the wire rack by screwing it in to the back wall above the top shelf. But before I show you that– the magnetic strip.  Mine came with hooks!  Here it is!  I put it down at the bottom.

And here it is with more things on it, and the bottles of medicine cabinet-y stuff.  The bottles are not too tall to interfere with getting the items off of the magnetic strip. I hung flossers onto the hooks. The magnetic strip has been really handy, especially with holding smaller things like bobby pins or safety pins that tend to get lost more easily.

Wire Rack

Here is a picture of the whole thing, with the wire rack at the top.  Yes, I did organize this all better and when I find that picture (you don’t think it stays always perfectly organized?!) I will add it to this post. : )

Do you see that beautiful aqua tile sink backsplash?  It is removable.  And I did it All By Myself!  You can make one, too!  Here is my magnetic strip today; you can see I’ve managed to squeeze a lot of things onto it.

Three Tips

So I actually have three tips for you in organizing your medicine cabinet.  Do you see the third?  Okay, so

  1. Use a magnetic strip to hold things.
  2. Use a wire rack to extend storage on taller shelves.
  3. Use cups (clear acrylic if you can) to hold things like toothpaste, combs, and makeup brushes. (Use two if there are two of you!)

I hope that this helps you with your organization goals this year!
